about

Syracuse, NY
The Landmark 2 day forum, Common Ground for Peace, is well underway. In the first day, there has been a two-part forum held in Syracuse University’s Goldstein Auditorium, featuring His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, moderated by NBC News Correspondent Ann Curry. With panelists Martin Luther King III, Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBarradei, and former United Nations Ambassador, civil rights activist, Andrew Young, the first session was dedicated to the rise of democracy in the Middle East.

In a post panel discussion held for the press, Mohamed Elbarradei talks about what he gained from the first session, while Shirin Ebadi gives a taste of her upbringings

It was Ambassador Young who worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1960’s to combat segregation using non-violent practices. MLK Jrs eldest son goes on to share what he feels is the most important idea for today’s younger generations to uphold.

The second session focused on shifting global consciousness.
Voices of Afghanistan opened the session with a traditional Afghan musical ensemble. His Holiness as well as panel members were introduced on stage. With his Holiness starting off the talk, he shared that through education and true compassion, much of our society’s problems can be healed.
